Το EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki συμμετείχε ενεργά στο ευρωπαϊκό πρόγραμμα EU
Childocracy Project, το οποίο υλοποιείται από τα Εκπαιδευτήρια Μαντουλίδη και επικεντρώνεται στην ενίσχυση της δημοκρατικής παιδείας και της ενεργού συμμετοχής των νέων.
Στις 26 Φεβρουαρίου 2026, η Επικεφαλής του EUROPE DIRECT Θεσσαλονίκη, Όλια Παναγιωτοπούλου, και η Διοικητική Συντονίστρια του Προγράμματος, Κατερίνα Ομουρίδου, πραγματοποίησαν από κοινού τοποθέτηση στο πλαίσιο των δράσεων του προγράμματος, αναδεικνύοντας τη σημασία της εκπαίδευσης ως θεμέλιο της δημοκρατίας στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. Κατά την παρέμβασή τους, υπογραμμίστηκε ότι η δημοκρατία αποτελεί θεμελιώδη αξία της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και δεν περιορίζεται μόνο στη διαδικασία των εκλογών, αλλά συνδέεται άμεσα με την ενημέρωση, την κριτική σκέψη, τον σεβασμό στη διαφορετικότητα και την ενεργό συμμετοχή των πολιτών.
Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δόθηκε:
– Στον ρόλο της εκπαίδευσης ως παράγοντα δημοκρατικής ανθεκτικότητας
– Στη σημασία της καλλιέργειας δεξιοτήτων κριτικής σκέψης και αναγνώρισης
της παραπληροφόρησης
– Στην ενίσχυση της συμμετοχής των νέων στις ευρωπαϊκές διαδικασίες λήψης
αποφάσεων
Παρουσιάστηκαν επίσης βασικές ευρωπαϊκές πρωτοβουλίες που στηρίζουν τη
δημοκρατική παιδεία, όπως:
– Η δημιουργία του Ευρωπαϊκού Χώρου Εκπαίδευσης
– Η Ευρωπαϊκή Στρατηγική για τη Νεολαία 2019–2027
– Τα προγράμματα Erasmus+ και Ευρωπαϊκό Σώμα Αλληλεγγύης
Μέσα από τη συζήτηση με τους μαθητές, αναδείχθηκε το μήνυμα ότι οι νέοι δεν είναι απλώς «μελλοντικοί πολίτες», αλλά ενεργοί πολίτες ήδη από σήμερα, με φωνή και ρόλο στη διαμόρφωση του ευρωπαϊκού μέλλοντος. Η συμμετοχή του EUROPE DIRECT Θεσσαλονίκη στο πρόγραμμα EU Childocracy εντάσσεται στη στρατηγική του Κέντρου για την προώθηση της ευρωπαϊκής ενημέρωσης, της δημοκρατικής παιδείας και της ενδυνάμωσης της νεολαίας σε τοπικό επίπεδο.
Το EUROPE DIRECT Θεσσαλονίκη, με φορέα υποδοχής τον Δήμο Θεσσαλονίκης και συγχρηματοδότηση από την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, συνεχίζει να επενδύει σε δράσεις που ενισχύουν τον διάλογο, τη συμμετοχή και την κατανόηση των ευρωπαϊκών πολιτικών από τους νέους πολίτες.

Participation of EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki in the European Program EU Childocracy
The EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki actively participated in the European program EU Childocracy Project, implemented by Mandoulides Schools, which focuses on strengthening democratic education and youth civic engagement.
On 26 February 2026, the Head of EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki, Olia
Panagiotopoulou, and the Program Administrative Coordinator, Katerina Omouridou, delivered a joint intervention within the framework of the program’s activities, highlighting the fundamental role of education in safeguarding democracy within the European Union.
During their presentation, it was underlined that democracy constitutes a foundational value of the European Union and extends beyond electoral procedures.
Democracy is intrinsically linked to informed citizenship, critical thinking, respect for
diversity and active participation in public life. Particular emphasis was placed on:
– The role of education as a pillar of democratic resilience
– The importance of developing critical thinking skills and the ability to
recognize disinformation
– The need to strengthen youth participation in European decision-making
processes
Key European initiatives supporting democratic education were also presented,
including:
– The European Education Area
– The EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027
– The Erasmus+ program and the European Solidarity Corps
Through dialogue with the students, the central message conveyed was that young people are not merely “future citizens,” but active citizens already, with a voice and a role in shaping Europe’s future. The participation of EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki in the EU Childocracy program forms part of the Centre’s broader communication and outreach strategy to promote European awareness, democratic literacy and youth empowerment at local level.
Hosted by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and co-financed by the European Commission, EUROPE DIRECT Thessaloniki continues to invest in initiatives that strengthen dialogue, participation and informed understanding of European policies among young citizens.
