Georgios Stavrou was born in 1788 in Ioannina and died in 1869 in Athens. He was a rich merchant and bank owner. He was a member of Filiki Eteria and he fought for the successful preparation of the Revolution of 1821. He was the first director of the National Bank of Greece (1841). He donated his property for the public benefit.
