HARISIOU PAPAMARKOU

Papamarkos Harisis was a philologist and a distinguished educator, he worked in high schools of Stromnitsa and Thessaloniki. In 1871 he went to Germany for further training but also for the dissemination of Greek education. He became a doctor of Philosophy and became the director of the first Greek School in the East, founded in Thessaloniki in 1875 with the sponsorship of the “Association in Athens for the dissemination of Greek letters”. He reached the rank of Inspector General of Primary Education and left a rich didactic and pedagogical writing work. He died in 1896 at the age of 52.
