MITSAION

The Mitsa family was a family of Militants who took part in the national revolutions and the military operations of the Greek State from the Revolution of 1821 to the Balkan Wars, such as the brothers Ioannis Kastritis and Stamatios Mitsas from Kranidi, who were militants of 1821.

METSOVOU

Metsovo is a historical town of Epirus, whose residents are of Vlak origins. Many fighters of freedom and national benefactors such as Averof, Tositsas, Stournaris etc were born in Metsovo.


MESOLONGITI VAS.

Vassilis Mesolongitis was a journalist and publisher of newspapers of Thessaloniki. Among others, he published the newspapers Eleftheros Makedonikos Typos, Makedonika Nea and he worked for Ellinikos Voras, Macedonia, Nea Evropi, Phos etc. He died in 1953.


MEROPIS

Merope was the wife of the mythical King of Messene, Cresphontes. Merope was also the name of one of the mythic Pleiades. She was the only one to marry a mortal. Jeus turned her into a star.


MELENIKOU KON.

Konstantinos Asimiadis was born in 1872 in Kallipoli, East Thrace and he was murdered at Sidirokastro in 1913. He was the Metropolitan of Meleniko from 1911 until his martyr death, due to his involvement in the national struggles.


METHONIS

Methoni is a historical city of the Peloponnese, with continuous presence since ancient times. It is known for its castle built by the Venetians in A.D. 1209. Methoni was also an ancient city in Pieria. It was founded in the 8th century B.C. as a colony by the citizens of Eretreia.


MATSI KYR.

Kyriakos Matsis (1926-1958) was a Cypriot Militant of EOKA. He studied Agronomy at the University of Thessaloniki. He was killed fighting in the Liberation Struggle of Cyprus.


MANOLI ANDRONIKOU

Manolis Andronikos was an eminent archaeologist and Professor at the Philosophy School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He was born in 1919 in Bursa, Minor Asia and died in 1992 in Thessaloniki. His name was associated with significant excavating projects in Macedonia and especially the discovery of the two first royal tombs of Vergina.


MANOUSOGIANAKI

Emmanouil Manousogianakis (1853-1916) was an officer. He took part in the War of 1897 and the Balkan Wars. He was appointed Minister of the Army. It was also the name of Anagnostis Manousogianakis (1786 or 1787 or 1890-1881), chieftain from Crete who fought in the uprising of Crete in 1821, 1841, 1858 and 1866-1869.


MAKRYGIANNI STRAT.

Ioannis Makrygiannis was a chieftain of the Greek Revolution and a politician (1797-1864). His real surname was Triantafyllou. He took part to important battles, he played a leading role in the Revolution of 1843 and he wrote his Memoirs.
