Methoni is a historical city of the Peloponnese, with continuous presence since ancient times. It is known for its castle built by the Venetians in A.D. 1209. Methoni was also an ancient city in Pieria. It was founded in the 8th century B.C. as a colony by the citizens of Eretreia.
