ANASTASIOU KIDONIATOU

“Kidoniatis or Kidonis. He was prominent and famous for his education in Thessaloniki, a friend of the Byzantine emperor Ioannis Kantakouzinos and Manouil II Palaiologos. His son Anastasios, born in Thessaloniki in 1770, was one of the national martyrs who had a torturous death by the Turks when the Revolution of 1821 broke out. He was a member of the organization “Kali Eksadelfi” of Rigas Velestinlis (Feraios), which is considered the precursor of the “Filiki Eteria”.
