Pineios is a large river in Thessaly. It flows from the Pindus mountains through the Thessalian plain and empties into the Aegean Sea. Its total length is 216 km. In Greek mythology, Pineios was a river god, associated mainly with fertility. There is another river by the same name in the Peloponnese, which, according to mythology, is connected to the fifth labour of Hercules.
