Theodoros Orfanidis was born in Smyrna in 1817 and died in Athens in 1886. He was a reputable botanist, professor and Dean at the University of Athens and member of the 2nd National Assembly. The famous Garden of Orfanidis, where he was cultivating plants of various species, was at the entrance of Zappeion. He was also a poet. Dimitrios Orfanidis was born in Smyrna in 1820 and died in Athens in 1898. He was a professor and director of the City Clinic of the University of Athens.
