YOUNG GREEK CONDUCTORS DIRECTING WORKS BY YOUNG GREEK COMPOSERS

In Collaboration with the Aristotle University and its Department of Music

The Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra, in cooperation with the Aristotle University and its Music Department, are putting on this concert after the culmination of a week-long educational workshop at the university as part of its programmed activities to feature emerging young artists, to promote the creation of contemporary music, as well as to offer a unique opportunity to showcase the talents of young conductors, composers, and orchestrators.  In this exercise their judges will be composition teachers from the Music Department of the A.U.T. and the conductors of the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra who formed the committees through a lengthy selection process of numerous young conductors and composers under the age of 35 who participated.  The compositions are all being performed in public for the first time and will be recorded and video-taped by the Music Department of the A.U.T. whose contribution is also immeasurable in terms of the loan of many percussion instruments for the proper performance of the pieces, while the Aristotle University is providing the auditorium free of charge as part of its cooperation with the Administration of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.  The compositions draw on themes from the city of Thessaloniki or its history.  The audience will have the opportunity to hear the composers themselves talking about their works.
