Prior to his conversion to Christianity, Paul was known as Saul and as a persecutor of the early disciples of Jesus. Later, however, he became an eminent Apostle of the Church. He died a martyr in Rome in A.D. 64. He wrote his famous Epistles to the local Churches that he has founded during his four missionary journeys. He is commemorated by the Orthodox Church on the 29th of June.
