Agia Lavra is a historic monastery at Kalavryta. It was founded in the 10th century. Its history is closely linked to the Greek War of Independence of 1821. In 1826 and 1827, it was burnt down, looted and destroyed by the army of Ibrahim Pasha. In 1943, the Germans burnt down the Monastery and executed its monks.
