Filiki Eteria was a secret organisation aiming at preparing the liberation of the enslaved Greeks. It was founded in 1814 in Odessa by Athanasios Tsakalov, Nikolaos Skoufas and Emmanuel Xanthos. Later, its seat was transferred to Istanbul. Alexandros Ypsilantis undertook its leadership.
