TSIMISKI IOANNOU

Tsimiskis Ioannis (925-976) was Emperor of Byzantium, he ascended the throne after Nikiforos Phokas, in one of the most turbulent periods of the empire (969 AD). He fought victoriously against both the Sviatoslav Russians and the Arabs. He is considered one of the most capable generals of the Byzantine Empire. He remained on the throne for seven years, until 976, when he died of typhus, returning from his triumphant crusade to the Holy Land. He was 51 years old.
