Demetrius Phalereus was born in the early 17th century in Istanbul and he was a scholar. He was also a professor of greek at the University of Rome. This was also the surname of Grigorios Phalereus (1873-1937). He was an army officer who took part in the Macedonian Struggle as a chieftain by the nom-de-guerre Kapetan Zakas. He also took part to the Balkan Wars and the Minor Asia Campaign and he retired as Lieutenant General. Phalerus or Phalereus was also a mythological figure who is counted among the Argonauts. Another renowned figure by the same name was Demetrios Phalereus who was a politician and Peripatetic philosopher in Athens (around 345-around 280 B.C.).
