Adrianoupolis is a city of East Thrace. It was named after the Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-1138 B.C.). In its long history, it had been an important transport, trade and military centre. It was the third capital of the Ottoman Empire. The Greek population of the city abandoned it after the Treaty of Lausanne.
